AUDIUM is the only theatre of its kind in the world, pioneering the exploration of space in music. The theatre's 176 speakers bathe listeners in sounds that move past, over, and under them. "Sound sculptures" are performed in darkness in the 49-seat theatre. Visit www.audium.org for more info.

Swells
(April 18 – May 3, 2025)
Oakland-based interdisciplinary artist Ven Voisey has created a site-specific composition that explores his relationship to the space within Audium. The show is an exploration of swells: how space is occupied by sounds that inhabit, infiltrate, expand, and then dissipate.
This piece explores the specific sounds of Audium: the hum of the breaker box, the phasing pulse of the equipment cooling fans, door hinges, water pipes, and how the exterior sub-audible sounds of traffic make the building shake at times, creating an almost wave-like sound.

Lewis Jordan and Music at Large bring people together by bridging arbitrary distinctions that have only served to divide us from ourselves, as well as serving to divide us from others.
This special night will feature the live spatialization of acoustic instruments- an Audium first!
